I’m a User Experience (UX/UI) design leader working internationally with over 23+ years of experience (beginning in 1995) creating highly usable products and interfaces. I see my role as building bridges between humans and machines and companies/organizations following an evidence-based methodology relying on data-driven decision making. I also spend my time building bridges between different project stakeholders—business, product, engineering, QA, UA, marketing, end-users, and others. I have a broad range of skills encompassing both design management as well as creativity, strategy, visual design, and user research. I am equally comfortable with a large variety of research methodologies (qualitative and quantitative). These days I mostly perform the role of a team leader, but I also enjoy providing creative direction and doing hands-on work. For me, the two go hand-in-hand. My management style is to lead by doing. Ultimately, I believe in the power of teams.
My recent focus covers the enterprise B2B side where I have led the design of complex applications in the SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, Cyber, FinTech, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Big Data, Cloud, Analytics, BI and IoT domains. I also am proficient in the consumer B2C space and have worked across many sectors from tech, health, retail, e-commerce, fashion, luxury, automotive, publishing, and many others. I have worked on a wide variety of well-known brands/companies including recently Oracle, Louis Vuitton, Visa, Audi, Intel, and Toyota as well as a variety of startups including ThreatStream/Anomali, Aktana, and Zappos. I have designed for a large variety of devices including desktop, mobile, tablet, touchscreen kiosk, proprietary business, government systems, and others. I have been named on a few interface design patents and have received a wide variety of awards over the years. I have also held senior executive roles at Oracle, Saatchi & Saatchi (a large NYC advertising agency), and a senior management role at Motorola.

I was a Senior Director at Oracle overseeing three product teams (Oracle Integration Cloud, Oracle Mobile Cloud, and Visual Builder Cloud Suite) within the Platform as a Service (Paas) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) business units. I managed a team of ~ 20 people based across the USA and Europe. As a senior leader, my responsibilities included leading my design organization while being responsible for executive product strategies and tactical execution, the User Experience of my products, fostering design excellence, creative directing, and growing a best-in-class creative culture. The second pillar of activities encompassed people management—team building (recruiting and hiring), skill-building (education and training), and human resources (career advancement, mentoring, and coaching). Along these lines, I was responsible for greatly expanding our Prague, CZ office and establishing a Center of Design Excellence.

As a senior executive at Saatchi & Saatchi Health, a preeminent NY advertising agency, I expanded User Experience into a core component of the firm's offering increasing its staff size and consequently billables by over 200%. Championed and advocated for the voice of the customer during all stages of the design process. Oversaw a large number of accounts (~12) designing iPad, iPhone, Web sites and other media while ensuring that best of industry User Experience practices were brought to a large number of leading Fortune 100 clientele. Built a UX department and supervised a staff of User Experience Researchers, Information Architects, and Developers, providing mentoring while ensuring that best of class creative work was consistently produced. Greatly expanded the User Experience offerings to include strategic insights, competitive analysis, usability testing and a wide variety of other UX activities. Effectively collaborated with stakeholders including Account, Creative, Copy, and Development from conception to implementation finding win/win solutions along the way. Interacted directly with our clients in many capacities from new business pitches that I led, to department capabilities presentations, usability testing sessions and UX work presentation.
Global Interactive Marketing Web Usability Specialist

As a senior manager at Motorola, I oversaw the usability practice for the Broadband Mobility Solutions group, which is responsible for all of Motorola’s large number of enterprise/B2B products. Redesigned a large and complex Web site (Motorola.com) to be more user-friendly, allowing our users to easily find information. This entailed redesigning search and providing a completely new information architecture. Management role included building consensus for my design solutions within a large organization, getting stakeholder buy-in, budget oversight, overseeing agency and independent contractor relationships, establishing and meeting team benchmarks and championing usability within this Fortune 100 corporation. Practical responsibilities included conducting large-scale, international usability testing (NA, EMEA, & APAC), quantitative surveying, heuristic reviews, persona development, ideation, requirements definition, creative direction, visual design, localization issues (28 countries/11 languages) and evolving the product lines to meet industry usability best practices.

Worked in-house as senior staff at top interactive agencies and direct to client as a UX and usability specialist on large-scale Web re/design engagements. Designed the first LA Times Web site (one of the first news Web sites in the world) and “TimesLink”, an interactive version of the LA Times on the Prodigy Network that existed before the World Wide Web. Set the standard for the design of interactive, on-line news. Established the precedence for user-friendly Web sites. Demonstrated the commercial viability of the Web.
